This recipe is fully plant based, made with all natural ingredients and is also gluten free 💪🏼

Turmeric is a perennial herbaceous plant which is part of the ginger family. The rhizome, which is more commonly known as a root, has been used in cooking, as a textile dye, and in traditional medicine for many years. It is native to Southern India and Indonesia. At MOJU we source our turmeric from Peru, as we believe the growing conditions there produce some of the highest quality product.

Turmeric contains loads of bioactive compounds and one of the best known is curcumin. Unfortunately, this is poorly absorbed by the body, however adding black pepper can help with its absorption. This is down to a compound called piperine (found in black pepper) which can increase absorption of curcumin by up to 2000% (link)

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 lemons (substitute for oranges if you prefer)
  • 20g fresh turmeric root
  • 60ml water
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper

This recipe contains fresh turmeric with some black pepper to help with absorption. The added lemon or orange contributes to your vitamin C intake, which provides wonderful benefits, such as helping support your immune system.

It does contain lemon juice which makes it quite sour, so if you are not a fan of the sour taste then you can sub in orange juice instead or reduce the lemon and have a mixture of both lemon and orange.
